North Coast Kids deliver Allied Health Assistant (AHA) services in Grafton & surrounding suburbs. These services are delivered by our AHA’s who work under direction of a Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist.
How do Paediatric AHA services work?

Our AHA’s work under direction of a Allied Health Professional (Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist) to deliver an intervention program. The Allied Health Professional completes the assessment in collaboration with the caregivers and AHA, develops the intervention program and monitors the therapy plan. The Allied Health Professional has regular contact with the AHA who is delivering the intervention. Our intervention programs are updated during regular meetings and our AHA will keep in contact with the caregiver to communicate the treatment plan. A review or consultation with the caregiver can be requested at any time.

Assessment & Program Development
What does the assessment include?
- Caregiver consult with the Allied Health Professional (and our AHA if suitable) to understand your concerns, your child’s history and determine the areas that require assessment.
- Direct assessment with the Allied Health Professional and our AHA. This assessment involves a combination of play-based observations and standardised/semi-structured assessments to evaluate the areas of concern.
- Caregiver consult with the Allied Health Professional (and our AHA if suitable) to provide feedback on the assessment and collaboratively set goals for intervention.

Therapy Sessions
Clinic Therapy Sessions
Clinic therapy sessions allow a the environment to be set up to meet specific goals e.g. sensory regulation, gross motor, self-care, fine-motor skills. Therapy sessions are play-based which involves following the child’s interests and using play to target therapy goals. Therapy sessions aim to facilitate a child’s goals while playing and engaging in activities they enjoy.

Mobile Visits
School or home visits can be arranged if this is suitable for your child. School visits are usually completed within the classroom or at lunch/play times. These sessions are most suitable to support social participation, fine motor skills and self-care within the school environment. We arrange these visits with the centre to ensure the time and session works for the session outcomes and their timetable.
